Hearing on new plan for Eden condos postponed

Developers of the Eden condominium project – a development in the works for six years with no apparent completion in sight – were scheduled to appear before the Boca Raton Planning & Zoning Board this week with a proposal to save the four-building complex.
But the session has been postponed indefinitely, according to a legal ad posted by the city of Boca Raton.
Steven Platzek, attorney for several Eden residents, asked for a delay. “Given that my clients only recently received notice of the committee’s intention to conduct the meeting to approve the developers’ modified site plan, I respectfully request that the Planning & Zoning [Board] postpone the scheduled meeting 60 days to allow my clients time to obtain a land use attorney to investigate the propriety of the developers’ proposed modification.
Platzek also said that he was retained by several unit owners who allege that the developers failed “to adequately and timely complete the development as promised pursuant to the unit owners’ contract for purchase and sale they entered into with the developer several years ago.”
Originally conceived as a luxury condo project, Eden has fallen on hard financial times and suffered construction setbacks, according to officials from Ceebraid-Signal and Boca East LLC, the firms involved in the project.
Recently, the Florida Attorney General’s Office, Economic Crimes division, subpoenaed records from Boca East LLC and Ceebraid-Signal Corp.
A few weeks earlier, the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulations launched two investigations of Boca East LLC and Adam Schlesinger, Eden’s project manager.
Messages left by the Boca Raton News at those offices have not been returned.
In the meantime, the developers are scheduled to appear before the P&Z Board at some time in the future to discuss changing the complex from all condos to 248 independent age-restricted living units, to be built in conjunction with Parc Communities. They will likely be rental units.

ONSTAGE: THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL I suspect that Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati’s production of this 2004 show will be this spring’s theatrical guilty pleasure. Trailer Park, a product of the 2004 New York Musical Theater Festival, sounds pretty silly. (One reviewer described it as “the theatrical equivalent of a bag of Doritos,” not good for you but impossible to put down.) What should make this show fun is a cast directed by Aubrey Berg, head of the musical theater program at UC’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), in his ETC debut. He’s using present students and past grads, offering a local showcase of what CCM routinely exports. Current CCM student Ashley Kate Adams is Pippi, a “talented stripper”; Jessica Hendy, a CCM grad who’s been in Aida and Cats on Broadway, is an agoraphobic housewife. The show also features members of a white-trash Greek chorus who play everything from hotel maids to disco queens — ETC veteran Deb Girdler as Betty, the loud-mouthed manager of Armadillo Acres; another ETC regular, Sara Mackie, as Lin (short for “Linoleum”), whose husband is a death-row inmate; and another CCM grad, Gina Valentine, as Pickles, a 17-year-old who suffers from hysterical pregnancies. If you’re looking for laughs, this will be the place to park. $16-$35. Through June 22.
