The Jazz hit more low notes than high notes in Game 1, but they did hit every Laker in sight, even Phil Jackson when Ronnie Brewer fell in Phil’s lap.
Percussion? Game 1 looked more like a concussion.
-The Lakers are better than the Jazz and could win the series in five games even if they continue to get murdered on the boards. Wouldn’t be a bad idea, though, to put on the hard hats for Game 2 and push back. A 17-rebound discrepancy is flirting with danger. Heck, LA had only eight more total rebounds than Utah did offensive.
Kobe told the media on Monday: “We ain’t no punks.” Meaning, like Tom Petty, they won’t back down. That’s fine, but they need to body up.
I don’t like Pau Gasol guarding Mehmet Okur on the perimeter. Takes Pau too far from the defensive boards. Put Radmanovic on Memo, Vlad Rad is long enough for that cover.
Okur may be from Turkey but he didn’t play like one, pulling down 19 boards and choking their gizzards on the boards.
-It has Okurred to me that Memo should not be allowed to get 19 rebounds ever again in this series.
-Believe it or not:The scruffy Okur has a hot wife. She’s a former Miss Turkey.
-Do you think playing against D-Will every day in practice for a year helps Derek Fisher in his matchup against
Deron Williams?Fisher’s ability to stay in front of Williams was a huge component in the Lakers’ 11-point win, one pretty overlooked by just about everybody.
The Lakers didn’t box out but one thing they did do was converge on Williams with big bodies once he got into the paint.
Williams looked frustrated. Fish’s six steals were another reflection that after that full year up in Utah, he knows the Jazz almost as well as they know themselves.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. –Kent Desormeaux knew there had to be greener pastures elsewhere. So in February 2006, in the middle of Santa Anita’s winter-spring meet, the Hall of Fame and Eclipse Award-winning jockey moved east.
“I couldn’t infiltrate anybody’s barn,” he said. “I was getting like two mounts a day.”
At the time, he was the fifth-leading money winner at Santa Anita and had been dominant for most of his 16 years in Southern California.
“In my eyes, I was starving,” Desormeaux said. “Finally, it got to the point where I was broke enough — and brave enough — to leave.”
Desormeaux moved with Sonia, his wife and high school sweetheart, and two sons, Joshua and Jacob, to the New York area and began riding on the Eastern circuit.
In his case, the grass was greener back east.
In 2005 and ‘06 combined, he had fewer than 200 wins. Last year alone Desormeaux had 209 and he has more than 75 so far this year.
And Saturday, Desormeaux will ride the 3-1 favorite Big Brown in the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.
The horse has raced only three times, but won all three by a total of 29 lengths and is coming off an impressive five-length victory in the Florida Derby.
However, only once has a horse with only three lifetime starts won a Kentucky Derby. That was Regret back in 1915. Something else that doesn’t bode well for Big Brown is the No. 20 post position. Only once has a horse won a Derby from that post — Clyde Van Dusen in 1929.
“But there’s never been a horse like Big Brown in the 20 hole,” said Desormeaux emphatically. “It’s a non-issue. I don’t think he could have gotten a better starting position. What, you’d want him to learn how to run with sand in his face on Derby Day?”

Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni were met by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall at Heathrow Airport, before heading to Windsor Castle where they were welcomed by the Queen.
Speaking in his native tongue, the president said it was an honour to address both houses of British parliament.
The destiny and fate of the UK and France have been intermingled for centuries, he said, adding that they “have clashed because our countries are too alike”.
“France will never forget Britain’s support during the first world war,” he went on.
Earlier, Mr Sarkozy paid tribute to Britain’s war dead when he laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey.
The tomb contains the remains of a soldier taken from a cemetery on the Western Front after WWI and symbolises all those who died in the conflict but whose place of death is not known.
Meanwhile, Ms Bruni has been accused of cashing in on the visit by highlighting how she will stay with the Queen at Windsor Castle in a sticker on her latest album.
Back to the summit, Britain is reportedly on the verge of signing a deal with France to build a new generation of nuclear power stations to replace our ageing stock.
And on the subject of illegal immigration, measures to tighten border controls on both sides of the channel will be discussed.
The French president may also take the opportunity to announce plans to send a further 1,000 troops to Afghanistan.
Mr Sarkozy said: “How can we do without your (Britain’s) strong economy, your language which is the most spoken language throughout the world - do without your defence, which is the most significant in Europe?
“I want a new Franco-British brotherhood.”
The president came to power last May promising to restore values of work, authority and respect in France.

It was taken by photographer Michel Comte and is expected to fetch around £2,000 at a New York auction on April 10.
Sky News correspondent Jayne Secker said Ms Bruni was a supermodel and it is no surprise that she posed naked in the past.
“(Auctioneers) Christie’s have come in for some criticism but they say this is a perfectly respectable piece of art,” she added.

But his popularity has tumbled in recent months, amid criticism of his jet-set lifestyle. He will be hoping the visit will help claw back some political stature. Analysts, the media and the French public are all watching closely.

Judd Apatow has a lot of projects in the works and ComingSoon.net took the opportunity to talk with him about his upcoming films, including: Drillbit Taylor, the Owen Wilson comedy opening this Friday, March 21; Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the R-rated comedy coming April 18 and starring Jason Segel and Kristen Bell; Pineapple Express, the Seth Rogen and James Franco action-comedy ; and Step Brothers, which reunites Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. He’s producing those films, and he is also producing Jack Black’s The Year One and he co-wrote Adam Sandler’s You Don’t Mess With the Zohan. The Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin helmer will next direct an untitled comedy that reunites him with Sandler, Rogen and his real-life wife, Leslie Mann.
Apatow spoke to us about his early years in the business when he was working as a standup comedian waiting for his big break.
CS: I understand that you and Adam Sandler were roommates at one time.
Judd Apatow: That’s correct. I lived with Adam Sandler in the late ’80s. We were both working as standup comedians at the Improv in Los Angeles. We became friends and lived together until he got hired to work on “Saturday Night Live” and moved to New York.
CS: Did you think that you would ever work on a project together?
Apatow: At the time that was all we wanted to do. We would write sketches and Adam was on MTV every once in a while on a show called “Remote Control” where he would do characters. At the time, we were all trying to figure out how we were going to open a door so we could be in this business. We were always writing and scheming and trying to figure out how we were going to climb up the ladder so they would let us do standup on TV shows and make movies.

Georgie James, the darlings of the D.C. indie-pop scene, will soon be As Seen On TV: The band has been invited to perform on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” next Wednesday.
John Davis, who fronts the group with Laura Burhenn, says they’ll perform “Need Your Needs,” a song that’s been in heavy rotation on my own ear buds ever since the Georgie James debut, “Places,” landed on my desk last year. “It’s a song that’s easy to find, if somebody saw us on TV, liked us and wanted to learn more about the band,” Davis says, noting that there’s a video - and that the song is available as a proper single.
Anyway, onto the quick Q&A.
Big musical week coming up on Conan: Wilco, James Blunt, Shooter Jennings and Will Ferrell, who played a mean flute on “Anchorman.” That’s some tough competition. What’s your game plan?
It’s going to be such bizarre territory for us to do something like this. We’re almost not really thinking about it. Andrew [Black], our drummer, has been on the show once before [with Black’s old band, the Explosion]; but the rest of us have never really done anything like it. I’ve played on a couple of regional TV show, but this is the first time I’ve done anything with this kind of an audience. I guess we’re going to try to be natural and not think about it too much and just kind of embrace the bizarreness of it.
Are you going to practice your one song, like, 25 times in a row before you go on? How do you get ready?
We’ve played that song so many times. It came up just the other day: Should we get together and practice before we go up for this? But there’s really no need. We just came off a European tour where we were playing that song every night for weeks. And there’s going to be line checks and sound checks before we perform. We’ll be warmed up.
You’re going to miss Natalie Portman by one night. How upsetting is that?
Pretty upsetting. But I’m especially upset about missing Will Ferrell. My wife and I were talking about who the stars are going to be when we’re on. I knew Will Farrell has a movie coming out that weekend and thought maybe we’d get to meet him. Unfortunately, we’re missing him. I’m still waiting to find out who else is going to be on the show with us. I was looking at that list, and every other day, there was somebody I wanted to meet: Cristina Ricci, Natalie Portman, Will Farrell, Will Arnett. But so far, we’re the only ones scheduled [on Wednesday].
Do you have a national TV outfit? Or do you have to hire a stylist to pick something?
I haven’t really thought about it. I’d imagine there probably won’t be much thought put into it. I’m sure everybody will have that in their minds a little more than normal, but we won’t be wearing coordinated suits or anything.
What are some of the more memorable musical performances you’ve seen on late-night TV?
Mostly it’s stuff I remember from junior high and high school, when I was a little more of an avid late-night TV watcher. “Saturday Night Live” was a show I watched every week in the late ’80s, early ’90s. For some reason, Teenage Fanclub on “Saturday Night Live” jumps out, probably because it was so bizarre that they were on national television. I remember when Jawbox was on Conan O’Brien in ‘94 or ‘95. That seemed so strange, that this band from D.C. was on such a big show. I definitely remember watching that; it was cool. It was strange but memorable whenever a band from DC was on TV when I was that age, whether it was Velocity Girl on MTV or Jawbox on Jon Stewart or Conan. I also remember seeing Neil Young on “Saturday Night Live” when “Freedom” came out and he did “Rockin’ in the Free World.” That was definitely good.
One last thing: Will you get Springsteen’s number from Max Weinberg while you’re there? I’d love to interview Bruce.
I’ll see what I can do.
